For as little as $110 a week, your child will receive a full day of math and reading skill development, enrichment, nutritious food and fun!

8:10am-8:30am Breakfast (no additional cost)
8:30am-11:00am Math & Reading skill development
Reading time will feature key comprehension and writing strategies from Benchmark Education. Math time will focus on Common Core Standards curriculum
11:00am-11:30am Lunch (no additional cost)
11:30am-3:30pm Enrichment
Enrichment will include leisure time motor activities, hands-on science fun, Readers Theatre (art through literacy), and book talks.

Who can attend this program?
The Summer Learning Experience program is for children who will be in kindergarten through 5th grade (classes will be organized by grade level) in the fall of 2013. All students are welcome, regardless of what town they live in or what school they attend. Special education student participation is voluntary, however these students will not be afforded the same level of support/services that they receive during the school year or in Extended School Year.

How much does this program cost?
Only $110 per week! The Summer Learning Experience program will cost $440 for each 4-week session for all current Valley View residents. The program will cost $500 for each 4-week session for those who live outside Valley View’s attendance area. Payment plans are available. Please see the registration form for details.

Where will this program be located?
The program will be held at five convenient locations: (Out-of-district residents will be assigned to schools based on enrollment needs.)

  • Hermansen Elementary School - for current Hermansen and King students
  • Hill Elementary School - for current Hill, Skoff, and K-2 Bilingual Education students
  • McGee Elementary School - for current McGee, Independence and Oak View students
  • Pioneer Elementary School - for current Pioneer students
  • Ward Elementary School - for current Ward, Tibbott, Wood View and Salk students

What about transportation & before/after school care?
Transportation to and from Summer Learning Experience will not be provided this year. Before-school care starting at6:45 am, and after-school care ending at 6:00 pm will be available for an additional fee (contact designated care program at your school for more information).

How do I sign up?
Mail in or return the registration form and payment to your child’s home school or the VVSD Administration Center now. After your payment is processed, you will receive additional information and an enrollment package prior to the first day of the program.

Here's what you'll get for $99 a week:

  • Two 4-week sessions - 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:
    • June 18 - July 13 (except July 4th)
    • July 16 - August 10
    • Register for all day ($396) or half day ($198)
    • Register for either session or both sessions
  • Three morning hours focused on Math & Reading skills:
    • Literacy instruction will focus on strengthening comprehension and will include a reading/writing connection.
    • Math time will include engaging, hands-on lessons designed to enhance your child's math skills.
  • Three afternoon hours of enrichment:
    • Plenty of leisure time motor activities
    • Hands-on science fun
    • Readers Theatre (where students build their reading fluency in a fun, creative way)
    • Book talks
  • Taught by the best-of-the-best certified teachers

  • Program is for children who will be in kindergarten (must be 5 by Sept. 1, 2012) through 5th grade in the fall
  • Out-of-district residents and private school students are welcome to attend
  • Busing provided by VVSD Transportation professionals will be available for an additional $25 each way per week. Busing will not be provided at midday or for Before and After School care.
  • Before-school care starting at 6:45 a.m. and after-school care until 6 p.m. will be available for an extra fee. Care programs are run by the Bolingbrook Park District (Pioneer), Friendship Centre at HighPoint (Skoff and Hermansen) or the Shamrock Club (McGee). You must contact the organization at the site your child will attend to register and pay fees.
  • Participation for special education students in the Summer Learning Experience is voluntary. Students will not be afforded the same level of support and services that they receive during the school year or in ESY.
  • Once you have registered, no refunds will be given unless the program is canceled.

The following organizations will provide Before & After School Care for an additional cost*.
Before School Care runs from 6:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. After School Care runs from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
